The Story Behind the Book
In February of 1975, I was a touring rock musician.
Within days, I left the road, joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as a legal intern, and stepped into a Chicago courtroom.
A year later, I was an Assistant State’s Attorney. Ten months after that, I was assigned to 26th and California, where some of the city’s most serious murder cases were tried.
Then one case found me.
A double murder. Missing evidence. A witness afraid to testify. A defendant from a powerful family. And a courthouse culture that was later exposed as deeply corrupt.
What I did not expect was that my years as a musician would matter in a murder case. But they did. That background helped me connect with a witness others could not reach — and helped bring a case back from the edge.
That experience became the foundation for CONVERGENCE.
